Do you need your dog trained and socialized but have no time to do it? Then this is the program for you. Canine Wellness Center has teamed up with Dogtopia of San Marcos to give you “Doggie Day Camp". This is an 8 Day "Head Start" program, which means we will get you a solid head start in training. The training days will be Monday -Thursday for 2 weeks. After the program we strongly encourage you to go through an upcoming Basic Class, with a 40% discount.
In this program your dog will spend half the day with a trainer at Canine Wellness Center and the 2nd half socializing at Dogtopia with their Daycare dogs. Your dog will learn the following on leash commands: Come, heel, sit, down, stay, and loose leash walk. It also includes 1 lesson with the trainer so you can learn what your dog has learned with us.
To be eligible to do this program your dog must be at least 12 weeks old, current on all shot records and pass the Dogtopia social evaluation. Once your dog has completed this program we recommend that you continue to attend Daycare at least once or twice a week.

What is CGC?? Started in 1989, CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as the first step in training their dogs. The Canine Good Citizen Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events. As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life.
10-step CGC Test:
Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger This test demonstrates that the dog will allow a friendly stranger to approach it and speak to the handler in a natural, everyday situation.
Test 2: Sitting politely for petting This test demonstrates that the dog will allow a friendly stranger to touch it while it is out with its handler.
Test 3: Appearance and grooming This practical test demonstrates that the dog will welcome being groomed and examined and will permit someone, such as a veterinarian, groomer or friend of the owner, to do so. It also demonstrates the owner's care, concern and sense of responsibility.
Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead) This test demonstrates that the handler is in control of the dog.
Test 5: Walking through a crowd This test demonstrates that the dog can move about politely in pedestrian traffic and is under control in public places.
Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place This test demonstrates that the dog has training, will respond to the handler's commands to sit and down and will remain in the place commanded by the handler (sit or down position, whichever the handler prefers).
Test 7: Coming when called This test demonstrates that the dog will come when called by the handler.
Test 8: Reaction to another dog This test demonstrates that the dog can behave politely around other dogs.
Test 9: Reaction to distraction This test demonstrates that the dog is confident at all times when faced with common distracting situations.
Test 10: Supervised separation This test demonstrates that a dog can be left with a trusted person, if necessary, and will maintain training and good manners.
