Dr. Michele H. Greer is a small animal veterinarian with certification in both animal acupuncture and chiropractic care.  She grew up in upstate New York as a  4-H member in dog obedience and a pre-veterinary club.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology  after attending the State University of New York in Buffalo and San Diego State University while working as a veterinary assistant.  She pursued her vision by relocating to the South and graduating with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University in 1998.

She then worked at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital in Costa Mesa for a few years.  She decided to move back to San Diego and work at another large multiple doctor practice in Del Mar, All Creatures Veterinary Hospital.      After four years of general practice, she decided to work as a relief veterinarian, allowing her time to pursue her interest in alternative medical care.  She attended Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas for animal chiropractic certification.  She later became certified in veterinary acupuncture after training at an IVAS veterinary acupuncture course in San Diego. Dr. Greer decided to add her business in animal acupuncture and chiropractic care with Jenn’s business, the Canine Wellness Center.

What is Animal Chiropractic?

Animal chiropractic involves adjustment of subluxations of the spinal column, pelvis, extremity joints and skull.

What are some of the problems that may indicate a chiropractic evaluation?

Stiffness when walking or difficulty getting up while laying down, lameness and arthritis...

Back, Neck, Leg and tail pain...

Maintenance of joint and spinal health...

Event or Sport injury...

A recent injury, slip, fall or accident...

Post-surgical care...

Jaw or TMJ problems difficulty chewing...

Unable to raise or lower head...

Not jumping up and down normally...

Why would I want to see a veterinarian trained and certified in animal chiropractic care?

A veterinarian has the medical knowledge base to determine if chiropractic adjustments maybe indicated or contraindicated by performing a full examination.  If necessary, radiographs or lab work from your regular vet will be requested.

What is Veterinary Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the placement of needles into specific acupoints to stimulate the body to heal itself by affecting certain physiological changes.  In traditional Chinese medicine, medical conditions are believed to be caused by imbalances in the flow of qi (chi) or energy in the body.  Acupuncture is believed to balance the qi, therefore able to help resolve medical problems.

What are some of the recommended diagnostic tests performed prior to acupuncture treatment?

Depending on the symptoms, a routine medical workup prior to treatment is usually recommended.  This includes a complete physical exam and may include radiographs, blood work and urinalysis.  A proper diagnosis should be made to decide if the pet will benefit from acupuncture treatment or whether it may need other care.  A combination of both western and eastern medicine may be the best option for your pets care.
